The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite
The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite
by David Kessler
Amazon Price: $17.13
Used Price: $8.99
Average Customer Rating: 4.5
Review (rating: 3):
The author, a pediatrician, was commissioner of the US Food & Drug Admin. under President Geo. HW Bush & Bill Clinton; has been dean of the medical schools at Yale and the Univ. of Calif., San Francisco

See last paragraph: I was constantly wondering WHEN the author was going to discuss his attempts, or lack thereof, as long time head of the U.S. Food & Drug Admin. to stop Big Food's shocking use of chemicals, preservatives, additives, and other sometimes dangerous and unhealthy non-food "junk" which contaminates our food supply. He never said one word about it. Nor did he address his efforts to thwart the unhealthy stripping down and refining of food, the dramatic rise of various forms of sugars being added to "food products" which are resulting in the epidemic of obesity, diabetes, and a long list...

Anatomy of a Food Addiction: The Brain Chemistry of Overeating: An Effective ...
by Anne Katherine
Amazon Price: $10.17
Used Price: $6.59
Average Customer Rating: 4.0
Review (rating: 5):
I have suffered with food addiction for most of my life. I have aggressively tackled it for the past 3. I have read more than 20 books on the subject ranging from addiction models to everything else out there that has been said. I have been exhausted and confused and failure after failure left me actually suicidal in my misery. Quite by accident I picked up this book and half bored began reading expecting to find the same unattainable prescription for my problem so many books had left me with. Kay Sheppard's book was one I had read and reread many times early in my quest. I have been an intense member of OA, FAA, and every other AA you can imagine for over 15 years.

Then somewhere in chapter 2 my ears perked up and I began reading on the edge of my seat. OMG, this is me. I couldn't put it down. I had ...
Foodie Fight: A Trivia Game for Serious Food Lovers
Foodie Fight: A Trivia Game for Serious Food Lovers
by Joyce Lock
Amazon Price: $12.89
Used Price: $10.98
Average Customer Rating: 4.5
Review (rating: 5):
I gave this game as a gift and was worried that it would be another one of those trivia games with either really easy questions or really hard ones. It was neither. The questions were legitimate. I mean, they had some really easy ones and some harder ones to challenge you to think and learn. We ended up not using the game pieces and just reading question after question to each other. It was fun. There were about the same number of questions that you would get in one reading box from Trivial Pursuit. I'd definitely recommend this game. It's ended up being a hit!

Math Potatoes: Mind-stretching Brain Food
Math Potatoes: Mind-stretching Brain Food
by Greg Tang
Amazon Price: $11.55
Used Price: $8.26
Average Customer Rating: 5.0
Review (rating: 5):
The book entitled Math Potatoes contains 16 poems of "mind-stretching brain food." Through cleverly written rhymes, Tang offers kids a way to understand what is being asked and find the answer using problem solving techniques that make arithmetic smarter, easier, and a lot more fun!

Many of the students that I tutor say they don't like math. They resort to counting on their fingers instead of grouping numbers the way Tang suggests in his book. For example, the riddle entitled "Smart Cookies" challenges kids to count each chocolate chip by grouping them into a square and adding the rest. The colorful illustrations and the solutions provided in the back of the book help the students to understand the concepts.

The entire Scholastic math series by Tang is a great educational tool. Highly recomme...
The Top 100 Omega-3 Recipes: Reduce Your Risk of Heart Disease*Keep Your Brain Active and Agile
The Top 100 Omega-3 Recipes: Reduce Your Risk of Heart Disease*Keep Your Brai...
by Audrey Deane
Amazon Price: $9.95
Used Price: $5.25
Average Customer Rating: 5.0
Review (rating: 5):
My reading convinced me that an Omega 3 rich diet would be a good thing for me. Once I decided to change my diet, I looked over a number of pertinent books on the subject and ordered three: one on the diet itself; two on recipes. Of the two recipe books this was far and away the better book. The recipes are down to earth and varied. Everyone should find some recipes in this book that will get them started on the Omega 3 diet. I was especially impressed with the introduction of the book which, while short, is packed with information about the diet in general and the importance of balancing the Omega3 to Omega 6 fat ratio. The body of the work is organized by meal type: breakfast; lunches & light meals; snacks; dinners; and desserts. Each menu has its own page and in the margins each has a brea...
Brain Allergies: The Psychonutrient and Magnetic Connections
Brain Allergies: The Psychonutrient and Magnetic Connections
by Willam Philpott
Amazon Price: $11.53
Used Price: $5.98
Average Customer Rating: 5.0
Review (rating: 5):
I have been researching the drug industry and psychiatry over the past year and have attended a Harvard Medical School seminar to see what is being taught concerning psychopharmacology. What I have learned is that for generations, orthomolecular physicians like Dr. Philpott have been curing mental illness by recognizing that brain malfunctions are caused by medical problems such as thyroid, kidney, and sleep disorder problems, an immune disorder cerebral allergy, metal toxicity, Candida infestation and enzyme and nutritional imbalances such as essential fatty acids deficiency (malnourishment). Biochemical testing can assist in determining underlying causes. Even Harvard's Dr. Stoll, who receives compensation from about ten different drug companies, recommends fish oil to provide essential Omega 3 fatty...
Feeding The Brain: How Foods Affect Children
Feeding The Brain: How Foods Affect Children
by C. Keith Conners
Amazon Price: $17.95
Used Price: $11.21
Average Customer Rating: 5.0
Review (rating: 5):
If you have a child who is sensitive to different foods that may be affecting behavior, this is the book for you. Was very helpful in addressing behavior that can be caused by foods. I used it for my child and found good results. It is not the easiest thing to change your child's diet, but if the behavior difference becomes apparent even to the child, then you have won half the battle. A must try before you put your child on meds!!
