| Food, Inc.
Amazon Price: $13.99 Used Price: $15.17 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 Review (rating: 5): On a recent roadtrip to California, we were on Interstate 5 and passed an area of feedlots near Stockton - the odor was unbelievable for miles before and after! Some of what we saw in the film is stuff we may have heard about, but to have it all put together coherently brings the information home, right to where we can see the results on our plates and in our refrigerator and cupboards(and in the nostrils of those unlucky enough to work or live near these giant feedlots!) It was mind-boggling and disturbing to really realize what keeps our food so cheap (relative to Europe or Japan or some other nations,) so disturbing we couldn't even watch the whole film in one sitting!
Food, INC, should be required viewing for everyone. Americans must think about what we are allowing to be done to us, our bodies, ...

| Up in the Air
Amazon Price: $16.99 Used Price: $22.01 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 Review (rating: 4): Movie - 5.0
It's really strange how a lot of my college classes in the past year have coincided with movies I end up watching. Right now, I'm taking a course on Civic Engagement & The Power of Social Capital. The class basically teaches us that society as a whole isn't what it used to be; people are more isolated these days, technology has made us inexplicably more distant from one another, and there just isn't much of a human connection anymore, at least like there used to be. Enter: Up in the Air, an incredibly accurate testament and indicative measure of the times we're currently living in and the complications that come with it. It's a story about how we choose to live our lives and is backed by a very clever analogy in "The Empty Backpack." Of all the material things we own and all the people we...

| The September Issue
Amazon Price: $19.99 Used Price: $15.37 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 Review (rating: 5): I expected this to be all about the editor of Vogue, but it's about the people around her as much as it's about Anna herself. The relationships between the editors, photographers, and designers are just as interesting as the details about how Wintour runs the magazine. The film is a little slow at points, but it's definitely worth watching. Video quality using VOD with Tivo was quite good.

| Capitalism: A Love Story
Amazon Price: $17.99 Used Price: $14.83 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 Review (rating: 1): Another very monolithic movie from MM. If you, like me, find humor in watching hypocrites in action you will love this movie. MM has always been a master of deception-by-omission and this movie is no exception. MM hates capitalism and if you purchase this movie you are supporting capitalism. Would MM really want you to support capitalism by purchasing this movie? I didn't think so either.

| GoodFellas [Blu-ray]
Amazon Price: $11.49 Used Price: $9.43 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 Review (rating: 5): When you have Joe Pesci and Robert Dinero in the same film, you got Hollywood magic. Love watching these two give and take between each other. Great great actors, both of them.

| Schindler's List (Widescreen Edition)
Amazon Price: $12.99 Used Price: $6.89 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 Review (rating: 5): Of the films I've seen, this might be the one with the widest gulf between a lack of affection I have for it and the extent to which I think it is nonetheless unswervingly effective.

| Bottle Shock
Amazon Price: $14.98 Used Price: $1.80 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 Review (rating: 4): Saw this movie last night on satellite and missed the first 30 minutes, but really enjoyed it. Love Alan Rickman. We kind of take for granted now in the USA the quality and quantity of US produced wines, but it wasn't always this way. This film is a nice, light historical introduction into the development of the US wine industry, thanks to Napa, CA. Anyway, a much much better film than Sideways and yes, the love triangle adds nothing to the movie, but doesn't overwhelm the film like the relationship scenes and storylines in Sideways.
